ORANGE BEACH, AL — Orange Beach City Council Member Joni Blalock is announcing her candidacy for re-election to Place 5 on the Council. Blalock has served on the Council since 2004. If re-elected, it would mark the start of her fourth consecutive term.

Blalock, who works at Columbia Southern University as the director of Corporate Outreach & Marketing, hopes to continue her service to the residents of Orange Beach:

“For more than 30 years, I have lived and worked in this wonderful, coastal community,” Blalock said. “I am eager to continue serving as a transparent leader who is enthusiastic about meeting the needs of my neighbors.”

During the past 12 years, Blalock has worked in various roles as a council member. These include serving on the Planning Commission, the Employee Advisory Committee and several other standing committees.

In the wake of the BP oil spill, she travelled to Washington, D.C., with a delegation of elected officials from the five Gulf States to speak in support of the RESTORE Act.

She was also instrumental in securing and establishing a dog park for Orange Beach citizens without the expenditure of any city dollars.

Additionally, Blalock serves on several local boards for the Orange Beach Library, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and the Islands of Perdido Foundation. She is the proud mother of two daughters and a son as well as an excited new grandmother.

Blalock is a firm believer in thoughtful and organized growth for the city.

“I want to see our community prosper, but I think that it’s important to achieve that progress through careful planning and infrastructure development,” she said. “I will always do my very best to vote in the interest of our local community.”
