Joseph Patrick “Joe” Klein Sr., 91 years young, of Silverhill, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.
He is survived by his children, Ricky Klein (Susie) of Barnwell, Roy Klein (Bonnie) of Barnwell, Mike Klein (Donna) of Vancleave, Miss., Kay Sharbono (Tommy) of Silverhill and Robert “Bobby” Klein (Millie) of Stockbridge, Ga.; a loving son-in-law, Paul Kennard of Decatur, Ala. (the widower of Joe’s daughter, Cooky); three grandchildren, Jason Klein, Mary Klein and Scott Klein. He was also beloved great-grandfather of four.
Joe also has a wonderful church family.
Joe was preceded to Heaven by his daughter, Edna “Cooky”Kennard; and his son, Brian David Klein. His sister, Milly, also preceded him.
His parents migrated to the United States at Ellis Island from Europe.
Joe was born in New York. He and his parents moved to Alabama when he was 3 years old.
They boarded the Bay Queen in Mobile, and crossed Mobile Bay to Fairhope, where they settled. This made him first generation “American citizen” Klein in Fairhope.
He was an avid fisherman, loving to eat just about any kind. Mullet were in danger when he went on the hunt with his net.
Joe knitted his own nets, including one he gave Kay on her 16th birthday.
He was a brick mason for almost his entire life, bricking most of the old buildings in Fairhope, and many churches, including three within Fairhope.
Joe instilled in his children the importance of being productive, hardworking, respectful people that would be independent. He was very proud, as we are very grateful and proud to call you Daddy!
We will greatly miss Dad’s wisdom and humor and will, one day, be able to share the joy of Heaven.
Thank you Dad…
For always understanding, listening, caring and loving us.
The greatest gift God gave us was YOU … my Daddy…
It’s difficult to let you go, but we must return the gift God gave…
A celebration of his life will be held at South River Park Church of God, 10993 County Road 32 in Fairhope on Saturday Nov. 9, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m.
