Joseph Turner Porter

Joseph Turner Porter was born May 29, 1927 in Montgomery, and died April 24, 2012.

 Joe, a 1945 Lanier High graduate, served in the U.S. Navy before returning to Montgomery to attend college. He left college and went into the construction business. He owned his own company, Joe Porter Builders Inc., and developed subdivisions in and around the Montgomery area. After selling his company, Joe became an inspector for   FHA and VA until his retirement and subsequent move to Gulf Shores.

 He is survived by his wife, Gladys B. Porter, Foley; sons, Reginald and Joseph, both of Montgomery; brothers Tom (Mary Alice,) Gulf Breeze, and Frank (Doris,) Montgomery; stepchildren, Teresa Hatcher, Gulf Shores, Peggy (Ronnie) Shoemaker, Vikki Cooper, Kathy (Johnny) Saxon, Wayne Austin, Christopher (Sarah) Austin and Ree (Mack) Yeargon; granddaughter, Brittney Hatcher, Gulf Shores; and many more step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemarie Nolen.

 A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, May 1, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Robert Warren and Daniel Randall officiating. A Celebration of Life reception and visitation will follow immediately at the Elk’s Lodge,2621 So. Juniper Street, Foley.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to your local American Legion Post or local Elk’s Lodge for their ongoing military and community projects, to St. Jude’s Hospital or to the charity of your choosing.
