SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Unusual animal, plant and bird wildlife of the Tensaw-Mobile River Delta will be on view to the general public Saturday, June 5 at the next scheduled “walk on” tour of the Blakeley State Park’s 50-passenger boat, Delta Explorer.
The two-hour guided tour gets underway at 9:30 a.m. leaving from the Tensaw River dock inside the state park. The Coast Guard licensed pontoon boat is shaded by a full-length roof and has restroom facilities.
Seating is on a first come-first serve basis but reservations can be assured in advance by calling 626-5581 and paying for them with major credit cards. Prices are $22 for adults, $12 for children 6-12 and free to children ages 4 and 5.
So far this season the Delta area appears untouched by the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico southwest of Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Numerous birds, alligators and other wildlife are regularly spotted on the Blakeley eco-tours and manatee are reported on their way along the Florida coast heading for Mobile Bay and their ultimate summer vacation areas in the Delta.
Blakeley State Park is on Highway 225 about 4.5 miles north of its intersection with U.S.31 at Spanish Fort. The park-owned and operated Delta Explorer is also available for charter. For more information on charters call 626-0798.
