FOLEY — A cell phone found at the site of a burglary last week led to the arrest of five male juveniles and closure for 22 cases being worked by the Foley Police Department.

The juveniles arrested ranged in age from 15 to 17, according to Lt. David White, lead investigator for FPD.

According to a press release issued Sept. 14 by FPD, police responded to a burglary on Sept. 13 at the Stop & Go Store on U.S. Highway 98. During the investigation a cell phone was found on the ground in the vicinity of the business.

Investigator Eric Waldrep, who was assigned the case, contacted the owner of the cell phone.

After questioning the male juvenile who owned the phone, Waldrep determined the juvenile was involved in the burglary.

The investigation of the Stop & Go case led to 22 other cases being worked by FPD.

Those cases involved thefts from parked, unlocked vehicles, breaking windows out of vehicles, two convenience store burglaries and a burglary at Foley Elementary School.

The five juveniles were charged with a total of 67 counts involving third-degree burglary, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, first-degree theft of property, second-degree theft of property, third-degree theft of property, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree receiving stolen property.

"I asked at one point what they were thinking," White said of the juveniles. "They said they had nothing better to do at 3 and 4 in the morning.

"What are they doing out at that time? People need to know where their kids are."

Besides the 22 FPD cases solved by the juveniles' arrests, approximately seven cases being investigated by the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office were closed as well.

The juveniles were transported to the Baldwin County Juvenile Detention Center where they were to remain until this past Sunday, the release said.
