GULF SHORES, Ala. — In the effort to protect the coastline the city of Gulf Shores is supplying its beach area residents with "Keep off the Dunes" signs.
A grant from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for an outreach program was awarded to the city recently, according to building official Brandan Franklin.
A $5,000 matching grant was used to supply the purchase of 600 signs, which Franklin said there are still plenty of available.
The grant also funded "Share the Beach" signs that informs beachgoers how to coexist with sea turtles while on the beach.
The free signs are limited to two per household, but more can be received for large lots. They can be picked up at the Community Development Department in the new Erie Meyer Municipal Annex on Clubhouse Drive.
