Hunter Ellenburg has added another postseason baseball accolade. The Alabama Southern Community College infielder was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-America honorable mention team. The Fairhope High School graduate was among five Alabama Community College Conference players recognized as All-Americans.

More baseball

     Bayside Academy graduate Hunter Slater hit .187 through 26 games, including 24 starts, for High Point-Thomasville in the summer Coastal Plain League. The University of Southern Mississippi infielder had three home runs and seven runs batted in.

     University of Montevallo catcher Jack Mayo, an Orange Beach resident, hit .222 with two RBIs in 14 games for the East Cobb Patriots of the Sunbelt league.

Football

     Demarco Montgomery is a junior defensive end for University of Memphis. The Spanish Fort High alumnus helped East Mississippi Community College to two NJCAA national championships.  

     Trevor Graves is a junior offensive lineman for Ottawa University (Kan.). The Foley High graduate played on the junior varsity squad last year.

     Justin Jackson, who played for Daphne High, is a junior wide receiver for Alabama A&M University. He started six of the nine games he played last year.

     Out of Spanish Fort High, Owen Betts is a freshman offensive lineman for Faulkner University.

     Anthony Byrd is a freshman for Mississippi College. He played for Gulf Shores High.

     Previously at Fairhope, Nate Faust is beginning his freshman season for Mississippi College.

     Foley High product Shawn Sanks is a freshman tight end for Delta State University.

     Former Lion Jalen Henry is a freshman linebacker for University of South Carolina.

Men’s golf

     Bailey Wilson, who competed for the Foley Lions, is a freshman for Montreat College.

     Alex Green is a freshman for the University of Alabama. The former AHSAA state champion played for the Fairhope Pirates.

Women’s soccer

     Rachel Lane is a freshman forward for University of West Georgia. She played for Daphne High and finished her prep career with 57 senior-season goals and set an AHSAA record for goals in one game with 11. She led the Trojans to an 11-8 season and a Class 6A state-runner-up trophy in the 2015 championship match.
