DAPHNE, Ala.—Daphne resident Ken Balme became the new president of the Daphne Old Methodist Church Museum at the beginning of the new calendar year.
“I’m very excited about it,” he said. “I see some real opportunities in several areas. First of all, we need to get more volunteers. Second thing is we want to try and improve our collections and see what we can try and get people to donate. Thirdly, we want more visitors.”
Balme said he would travel to Baldwin County for business and pleasure since 1967 before moving permanently to Daphne in 2009.
Balme is also a member of Daphne’s Downtown Redevelopment Authority, and he updates its website and Facebook page.
He replaces Mickey Boykin, who served as president of the Daphne museum for six years.
“(Balme) took it over the first of January,” Boykin said. “He’s going to do a terrific job.”
Boykin said she would stay active with the museum as the secretary.
