• Board to consider recommendation at regularly-scheduled meeting March 17

Daphne High principal Meredith Foster has recommended former Daphne and Crimson Tide player Kenny King, 34, to be the Trojans’ next head football coach and athletic director.

In a statement from Terry Wilhite, director of communications for Baldwin County Board of Education, Foster made the recommendation to BCBE superintendent Eddie Tyler and the board will consider the matter at its regularly-scheduled meeting Thursday, March 17.

"I’m extremely excited to be able to recommend a candidate who will be able to generate so much excitement in our community," said Foster in the BCBE release. "Coach Kenny King has all the assets we were looking for: strong character, excellent leadership skills and experience as both player and coach. He also happens to be a hometown hero, being a Daphne High School graduate as well as both a collegiate and NFL football star.

“His life experiences in other athletic programs will bring great benefits to our athletes, and it will be a great homecoming to have him, his wife and three young children back in Daphne."

King has been a coach at Hamilton High School in Phoenix, Ariz., for more than three years. He played defensive end at Daphne for then coach Steve Savarese and graduated in 1999. He was then a four-year starter at Alabama where he was a three-time All-SEC Academic selection and a two-time All-SEC selection overall and twice selected Alabama’s Iron Man.

King then played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and one season with the Baltimore Ravens before injuries forced his retirement in 2008. Read more about the Hamilton High Huskies.
