FAIRHOPE – A 34-year-old Kentucky man who police say was in town visiting family has been accused of arson in connection to five overnight fires.

Fairhope Police and Barnwell Fire responded to a brush fire on Highway 181 and then a garage fire on the 10100 block of Hwy. 98 late Tuesday night when they were alerted that Baldwin County teams were also working three additional fires in the Weeks Bay area, according to Fairhope Lt. Shane Nolte.

According to police, first responders noticed the same vehicle had been at each location, and a Baldwin County deputy located the suspect.

The second-degree arson charge is for the Fairhope structure fire, which Nolte said had been abandoned for a while. The other four fires were brush fires. No injuries were reported.

Nolte said more charges are pending a full investigation.

The suspect has only been reportedly tied to the five fires that occurred overnight. Nolte said he has not been connected to a house fire on 181 or a brush fire behind the Foley Sports Complex.
