Lt. Col. James Bacon King, (U.S. Army, retired), 88, a native of Tennessee and a resident of Daphne, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 in Fairhope.
He was stationed in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. His artillery battalion was one of the first to retaliate on the Japanese Zeros as they bombed the island and battleships in the harbor. He was an avid writer and was able to have a book published “Gas $1.00” at the age of 87.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryne Burkholder of Daphne and Jamie King of Anthony, N.M.; son, Henley King of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Henley-Bacon Private Cemetery, Big Gully, Tenn.
