Charles W. “Chuck” Koontz, 71, a native of Pensacola, Fla., former resident of Elberta and a resident of Pensacola, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 43 years of service, a member of the National Guard Hall of Fame, and was a gifted musician.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Majors.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Polly Koontz of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Amy (Terry) Posey of White, Ga.; three sons, Douglas (Kelly) Koontz of Pensacola, Fla., Todd (Stefanie) Koontz of Kathleen, Ga., and Gregg (Tammy) Koontz of Navarre, Fla.; sister, Marlene Edmondson of Elberta; two brothers, Carl Koontz of Worchester, Mass., and Donald Koontz of Elberta; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4 at the Swift Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial followed at Swift Presbyterian Cemetery in Miflin.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Covenant Hospice, 2004 N. Palafox Street, Pensacola, FL.
