ELBERTA, Ala. — Elberta Councilman Don Koontz has tendered his resignation.
During last week’s Elberta Council Meeting, Mayor Marvin Williams made that announcement, explaining it would be effective July 4. However, Koontz was not present at the June meeting.
Williams also pointed out that in his tenure, Koontz took an active part in overseeing the town’s finances.
“He brought to us what I feel was great financial stability,” the mayor said.
Koontz was an incumbent re-elected to the Elberta Council in 2012. Williams said that upon election, Koontz had not planned to finish a full term.
Those interested in filling the vacant seat are asked to submit a letter to Elberta Town Hall for the position that will be filled by the remaining Council within the next 60-90 days.
