Labor day weekend, between some rock and a soft place:

Posted

September starts out with a (head)  bang, or maybe some pulsing amplifiers or squealing guitars, as two rock shows will light up The Wharf Amphitheater to begin the month.

Kid Rock will perform with his band Twisted Brown Trucker Band in the “Born Free” tour on Labor Day—the second to last stop of a long tour that included California, Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina,  and Georgia, according to kidrock.com.

The album “Born Free” was released Nov. 16; the artist’s other albums include: “Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast”, “Rock N Roll Jesus” and “Devil Without  a Cause” while hit songs include “All Summer Long”, “Cowboy”, “Bawitdaba” and “Picture”.

The tour debuted with a birthday bash at Detroit Lions’ stadium and continues to launch Kid Rock into a more Country Rock genre as he steps away from his former rap and heavy metal sound.

“The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit,” he said on the Web site. “Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul.”

But beach-bound rockers won’t have to wait until Sept. 5; the Rock Allegiance Tour featuring Buckcherry and Papa Roach with Puddle of Mudd, P.O.D., Red, Crossfade and Drive A will hit The Wharf Amphitheater stage Sept. 4.

Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix sayid on rock allegiance.com, “I’m… super-stoked to be on this tour.”

“It’s our last tour before we go away for a while and make a new record so it’s gonna be an all-out throw down.

“No place I’d rather be than on a bill of kick-ass rock and roll bands.

“It’s an amazing way to wrap up our touring cycle on ‘Time for Annihilation’.”

Some bands are psyched about the company and the tour’s timing, while some say the season and place doesn’t hurt either.

Buckcherry lead vocalist Josh Todd said on the site, “Buckcherry is ready to join forces with our friends Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, POD, Red, Crossfade and Drive A for some fun in the sun that doesn’t stress your wallet. Come out and rock with us–we’ll make it a summer you’ll never forget!”

The tour is presented by Right Arm Entertainment and, while the show contains multiple rock bands and boundless energy, ticket prices stand at $25 to $39.50.

“The Rock Allegiance Tour pledges an unforgettable evening of loud riffs and cheap tix for rock fans across America,” Del Williams, co-president of Right Arm Entertainment, said on rockallegiancecom. “With seven bands and discounted ticket prices on every tour stop, this will be THEE rock and roll party of the summer.”

Others are simply happy to perform together and have fun while entertaining the masses.

“This is a real rock tour for real rock fans,” said Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin on the tour‘s Web site. “We’re looking forward to ending the summer with our good friends.

“The Rock Allegiance Tour is where it’s at—see ya there!”

Kid Rock tickets must be reserved and cost $77, $52 and $28.50 and Rock Allegiance Tour tickets cost $39.50 for general admission and $35 and $25 for reserved seats.

Both start at 8 p.m. and tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or 800-745-3000.
