Lady Admirals reign in soggy soccer showdown

DAPHNE—Brittany Houseman knocked down two penalty kicks in a triple overtime shootout in a heavy downpour Tuesday to help the Lady Admirals win their final home game of the season 2-1 over UMS-Wright.

Ann Bradford Hansen scored in regulation to put Bayside girls 1-0 at the half, but the Lady Bulldogs came back to tie in the second half on goal by Charlotte Galloway.

Both golden-goal overtimes went nil-nil to set up the PK shootout as the rain got heavier an harder. UMS-W made two PKs in the overtime phase, but Bayside's Dorothy Walton and Mary Cameron Dees added to Hansen's PK for the 3-2 shootout advantage and the match win for the Lady

Admirals who just missed a playoff berth at 7-9-1.

"I'm extremely proud of them," said BA coach Josh Montgomery. "Brittany did a great job. Proud of her, she needed that tonight. But, we feel like we under achieved as a team not making the playoffs this year. We're better than (the record) shows. We had a lot of tough, close losses and that's hard.

"But I think this shows the character of these girls. They never go down without a fight and they refused to let this last one at home be a loss. So, this was a good result to go out on. We still have one more up at Saint James in Montgomery and we're going to go and do our best and try to win that one too, have a good time and hope we go out on a high note."

The team and fans honored seniors Kylie Keyser, Lizzy Kolakowski, Isabela Sanchez-Navarro and Hannah Pate.

The match at St. James is set for Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs will host the first round of the 4A-1A playoffs.
