DAPHNE,Alabama—Virginia Pittman led the Bayside Academy Lady Admirals to a 37-21 home-court win over T.R. Miller Friday in a 3A Area 1 contest.

Maggie Cooper added eight points while Harper Morrison and Jhalen Caffey each added six points to the Bayside score. Pittman finished with 8 rebounds, Morrison grabbed five. T.R. Miller's Lateysia Montgomery scored a game-high 14 points.

The Lady Admirals improved to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in league play with an 18-6 point exchange down the final eight-minute stretch. The second-half burst by Bayside left the Lady Tigers and a too-close-for-comfort lead of 19-15 after three periods behind for good.

Bayside got off to a flat start scoring only 2 points to the Tigers 10 in the first period, but rallied to shutout Miller in the second quarter and even the score which was tied 10-10 at the half.

“That was a good win for us,” said Bayside head coach Brittany Davidson. “We wanted to come out of halftime with more intensity. And I think we did a pretty good job. Limited them to five points in the third and six in the fourth so it was good to be able to keep the pressure up and then also score off of the opportunities that pressure created. We were able to break their press, were patient on offense, got some good looks inside, got some easy layups and I was proud of how they just played a full game.”

With only two seniors as well as having had a number of non-playable injuries suffered by as many as five players during an earlier part of the year, Davidson is seeing some resurgent growth as a team and now has all of her original players able to play after the holidays.

“It’s a young team we have and we have had some ups and downs. But they have been working hard all year to get better, more consistent and to finish strong like tonight. That’s big. And, now, after the break, we are really starting to play more as a team. One thing is good, too, is having 11 healthy players back, again. We were having to play with as few as six sometimes, so 11 is a lot better to have for all of us.”

The Admirals travel to Brewton Tuesday to face W. S. Neal and will host Neal on Friday. Tipoff times for both games are listed as 6 p.m. See schedules on ahsaa.com
