ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – The seniors are not the only leaders on Robertsdale head coach Scott Harville’s basketball team. With freshmen stepping into their roles, the Robertsdale Lady Bears (2-8) defeated the Foley Lady Lions (0-9) 48-39 on Tuesday in their first area match-up of the season.

“Every year, the goal is to win the area,” said Harville. “It’s great to be 1-0 right now. I think [the Lady Bears] played well tonight. We just came back from the holiday break, so they haven’t played in a game in two weeks. I am very proud of them.”

Freshman center Madeleine Pettite finished with a double-double. Pettite tallied 12 points and 14 rebounds.

“[Pettite] played really well,” said Harville. “She improves every game. She knows where to position herself and she is getting a better understanding of the game.”

Senior Sheila Dailey finished right under Pettite with 11 points. While freshman Austin Richardson had nine points.

With several lead changes throughout the game, the Lady Bears didn’t seal the win until late in the fourth period. However, the Lady Bears stole the lead after the first shot in the second half and retained it.

The Lady Bears play Fairhope (4-7) in Robertsdale at 6 p.m. on Friday.
