Lady Bears bust Jaguars 52-37

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – Coming off a three game losing streak, the Robertsdale Lady Bears (2-8) desperately needed to secure a win against the Hillcrest Lady Jaguars (2-12) before the holiday break. With Robertsdale senior Sheila Dailey finishing with 20 points, the Lady Bears did just that, defeating the Lady Jaguars 52-37 on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bears lost to the Lady Jaguars 50-54 in their last meeting over a month ago. “This win just shows how much we have improved since the beginning of the season,” Robertsdale coach Scott Harville said. “We are taking care of the ball better and playing smarter. Tonight, we stayed out of foul trouble and held [Hillcrest] to 19 [points] in the first half. This was a good win before the break.”

Though Dailey tallied the most points for Robertsdale, the freshmen players contributed largely to the team’s success.

“Madeleine Pettite, being a just a freshman, has helped take some of the pressure off [Dailey],” said Harville. “[Pettite] rebounds well and is very helpful inside. Also, our other freshman, Austin Richardson has gotten so much faster and better with the ball. With the freshman stepping up, the team should peak at the right time.”

Pettite finished under Dailey with 11 points against the Lady Jaguars. “There is a lot of pressure being younger,” said Pettite. “A lot of sophomores that play on JV want my position on Varsity. I have to give my best every single game. I feel like [we won because] I am getting more used to the plays and our team is becoming more organized as a whole.”

The Lady Bears will come back after a two week break to play their first conference game against the Foley Lady Lions (0-7) in Robertsdale on Jan. 4 at 6:00 p.m.
