FAIRHOPE, Alabama—Robertsdale’s Lady Golden Bears took a big league win on the road at Fairhope Tuesday night with a 62-41 finish over the Lady Pirates. The win puts the Lady Bears at 2-2 in the 6A Area 3 race and 10-9 overall. Fairhope fell to 1-4 in area play and 9-9 overall.
Austin Richardson led the Lady Bears with 23 points and Maddie Petite came away with a triple double 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks while Drea Curry added 12 points for RHS. Imani Kirksey’s 18 points paced the Lady Pirates along with 12 points by Kayla Dailey. FHS was 9-of-16 at the free-throw line while RHS hit 13-of-23.
The Lady Bears broke away from an 18-18 score in the middle of the second quarter to lead 30-20 at the half and led by as much as 22 down the stretch.
“We talk about handling pressure during different parts of the game and tonight I think we did a better job of that,” said RHS head coach Paul Marsh. “We’ve been doing a better job of taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers. We got a lot of points in the paint and —obviously with Maddie Petite in there— that’s what we want to do. But also got good support too outside with Austin Richardson scoring 24. Fairhope challenged us early and forced us out of rhythm a little but we stayed close and steady and were able to hit some good shots and put some points on the board and limit the quality of their shots and pulled away. So, now we’re going to go back to work and get ready for Daphne on Friday.”
The Lady Bears host Area 3 rival Daphne Lady Trojans Friday night at 6 p.m. Fairhope will travel to Foley High School Friday to take on the Lady Lions in another 6A Area 3 matchup at 6 p.m.
