FAIRHOPE, Ala. –  The Lady Pirates rallied from behind with strong serving to get a 6A Area 3 senior-night win over visiting Foley Sept 28. Fairhope won in three-straight games 25-15, 25-23, 25-22.

Melissa Rew had 12 kills and three blocks, Taylor O'Neill 10 kills and one block, Kali Martin eight kills and six aces, Rachel Cooper had three kills and two blocks, Courtney Ellis had eight aces and 12 assists, Jessica Bunch had 13 assists, two digs, an ace and a kill, Savannah Harvey had four aces, Sara Litteken had four digs, Laci Dorsey had two digs and Callie Amond one ace for the Lady Pirates.

For the Lady Lions, Megan Haber had 14 kills, three solo blocks, six assists and 24 digs; Vanessa Dilley had 21 scoring assists and four block assists; Summer Collins had 10 kills, KiKi Youngblood had six kills and Natasha Johnson had 14 digs.

Fairhope coach Jessica Webb said her team's improved consistency and aggressive serving were keys to the win.

"We are serving more aggressively and playing like we're capable," she said. "We have been good at serving to zone well all year but but not as aggressively and consistently. It's nice to be doing that at this point. And it's always better late than never. We were focused and aggressive tonight and that's how we have to play to win."

Foley took early leads in each game but long scoring runs off serves by Martin (10 straight points in game one), Ellis (eight points in game two) and Litteken (four in game three) kept the pressure on the Lion defense.

In game two, Haber had an eight-point streak from the line after Fairhope had gone ahead 20-11. Litteken later served the Pirates to game point 24-21 before a short run by Collins brought Foley to within one at 23-24. But a kill down the line by Cooper sealed the game for Fairhope.

Foley coach Jessica Allred said the Lady Lions played hard but came up short.

"Fairhope showed up. They were really, really on," she said. "It was definitely their senior night."

The Lady Lions still hold a 2-1 edge over Fairhope getting an early tournament win and the first area meeting at Foley.

"We beat them at our place and once in a tournament," Allred said. "But not tonight. My girls played hard. I'm proud of them. We communicated well, but Fairhope played really well and it just didn't fall in our court tonight."

Daphne, Fairhope and Foley trail Robertsdale in the regular season Area 3 standings.
