Fairhope’s Hannah Evans and Jessica Dailey helped the team with first place performances and-or key high-point placement in multiple events. SF was led by Lauren Davis (two school records) and Cheyenne Moody who swept their individual events or won and placed for points.
“It was a great day for a track meet, especially our girls,” said assistant Fairhope coach Cassandra Agee. “They all stepped up big, focused on their job, their role and got it done. Hard work and dedication. This team understands what it takes. Hannah and Jessica helped us with some big first-place points. Hannah on the track and Jessica in the field events. Coach (Tim) Yahr always knows how to get us ready to do the best we can. And today we won big.
“Proud of them and the boys for a great effort, too. The boys didn’t do as well as the girls but we have a lot of young guys coming up and they, along with Thomas Grace winning the 800, helped get us a fourth place.”
Evans won three events—the 800 (2 minutes,30.81 seconds) meter run, the 1600 (5:37.20) and 3200 (12:12.21) meter runs with SF’s Katrina Garofano on her heels in the 800 and Daphne’s Kaleigh Akers pushing all the way but finishing right behind the Pirate’s repeat distance champion in the mile and 2-mile runs. And
Davis was also a triple-gold-winner for SF sprinting to the county title in the 100 (12.56), the 200 (26.51) and the 400 (1:04.25). The Lady Toros also scored high with a second place in the 4x100 relays with Davis on the start and Moody at anchor with Savannah Lee and Aren Valerie passing in the middle.
“We lacked volume on the girls side,” said SF coach Michael Rauch. “But what we lacked, we made up for in quality. I mean Lauren Davis was great with a school record in the 100 and another in the 200. Won the 400 and second in the 4x1 (100). She just had a great day. And also we went one and two in the triple jump with Cheyenne going over 33 feet.”
Daphne dominated in the relays winning the 4x100 (52.70) with the team of 1) Brooke Battiste, 2) Wynter Battiste, 3) Dorothy Harris and 4) Shakara Todd. The Lady Trojans also won the 4x800 in 11:28.96 with 1) Akers, 2) Megan Edwards, 3) Jordan Peterson and 4) Tia Alphonse.
The Lady Toros claimed the 4x400 Meter Relay crown in 4:40.67 with 1) Brittany Boudreaux, 2) Garofano, 3) Samantha Pote and 4) Aren Valerie exchanging the baton.
In the hurdles Fairhope’s Megan Midkiff won the 100 in 18.16 while Caitlyn Martin of Gulf Shores won the 300 meter event in 50.68.
Fairhope got second and third place points from Shelby Pitts and Midkiff in the 300. Martin was a close second in the 100 for GS at 18.32 and Preyah James third for Daphne (18.50).
In the field events, Dailey won the Shot Put with a throw of 33-4.5 and earned second-place points in the javelin as Fairhope teammate Briana Ming won with a toss of 82-00. Kaitlyn Ebert of Foley edged Lauren Moorer of SF in the Discus Throw 81-01 to 80.09.50. Erin Windham of Daphne was third (79-01).
The Lady Pirates packed on the points with a first, second and third-place sweep in the high jump. Spencer Smyly led with a winning leap of 4-08, Megan Midkiff was second (4-06.) and Kayla Dailey third tied with DHS’ Megan Edwards and Gulf Shores’ Hannah Tilley.
Kayla Kircharr won the Pole Vault with a jump of 7-feet for DHS. Savannah Hollis won the Long Jump for the Baldwin County Lady Tigers (15-08). The Girls Triple Jump went to SF’s Moody who led with a 33-05. Savannah Lee of SF was third and Midkiff third.
