Lady Pirates fall in Shootout title game

DAPHNE—Fairhope's Lady Pirates made it to the championship of the Jubilee Shootout softball tournament at Daphne's Al Trione Park Saturday. But Dothan High's No. 3 ranked Tigers shot down the competition and stormed the tournament to claim the title going 4-0 through the elimination bracket with shut out wins over Robertsdale 4-0, Daphne 3-0 and Fairhope 3-0 and 8-0 in the final.

The Lady Pirates got a semifinal win 2-1 over Daphne to advance to the championship. Fairhope took wins over Baldwin County 3-0 and Flomaton 7-1 Saturday. Farish Beard got the win over rival Daphne. Megan Dowdy led off the game with a double for Fairhope and came home on a hit by Alison Augustine. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Trojans tied it 1-1 when Jennifer Turner walked, stole second, was bunted to third on a sacrifice by Allie Meraz and scored on a fielders choice by Amber Henson. The Lady Pirates took the lead for good on an RBI single by Brooklyn Caudill to score Augustine.

DHS advanced to the semifinals with wins over Flomaton 10-0, Elkmont 1-0 in extra innings and Mary Montgomery 4-0. In other action, Robertsdale defeated Gulf Shores 10-4 and John Curtis (La.) 6-5. Gulf Shores defeated BCHS 6-1 but fell to Elkmont 2-1.

This weekend Daphne heads to D'Iberville Miss., and Foley to Enterprise.
