FOLEY – The Fairhope Lady Pirates swept Foley 25-16, 25-16 and 25-20 on the Lions’ senior night on Tuesday.
Fairhope head coach Jessica Webb said her team’s aggressive play was a key to the Pirate victory.
“They were focused and tough and did a good job being aggressive,” Webb said. “There were some close plays that could have gone either way. I though we out hustled them tonight. I am proud of our girls.
“One thing that has changed during the season is that the aggressiveness is coming from the players. We aren’t have to make them play hard, they are just doing it.”
Fairhope won the first two games convincingly, but Foley played the third and final game close. The Pirates pulled away from the Lions after Foley tied the game at 19. Fairhope won five out of the next six points to win the match.
“We still made some errors tonight,” Webb said, “but they came from our team being aggressive.”
Victoria Roszkowski led the Lady Pirates with eight kills, while Jessica Bunch had 11 assists. Webb also said that Melissa Rew, a sophomore, played well.
Foley honored seniors Lisa Alms and Hannah Younce before the match.
Fairhope plays at Murphy at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Foley plays a tri-match with Madison County and Robertsdale at Robertsdale on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
