Lady Sun Chiefs beat Darton College 67-62

BAY MINETTE – After a dismal 3-7 start to the season, Faulkner State’s Lady Sun Chiefs started the second half of their season by avenging a previous loss to the Darton College Lady Cavaliers 67-62.

The Lady Sun Chiefs came out strong, scoring the first nine points of the game until the Cavaliers' Aurie Bakon scored a two-point basket. Darton then went on a 10-point run until Faulkner’s Keara Walker nailed a three-point jump shot. Faulkner then went on to have another 12-point run until a foul placed Darton's Jennifer Whittaker to the free throw line were she made both shots to place the score 21-12 in favor of Faulkner. The remainder of the first half was back and forth scoring as Faulkner came out dominate 34-23. Jessica Lindsey had 10 of Faulkner’s 34 points while Walker had eight and Cheryl Yearby had seven.

With just over three minutes into the second half Walker scored 2 back-to-back three-pointers, giving the Sun Chiefs the 42-25 lead. Darton then came back with six unanswered points to bring the score back within 11 points. With the score 46-32 with 13:20 left on the clock the Cavaliers scored eight points to bring the score 46-40. Another six point run allowed Darton to tie the game with 8:27 left in the game. Down by one with one minute left in the game Darton was plagued with several fouls allowing Faulkner to score six free throw shots to seal the 67-62 victory and giving the Lady Sun Chiefs their third win of the season.

Walker led Faulkner with 23 points, while Lindsey and Brittany Syria both had double-doubles with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Lindsey and 14 points and 13 rebounds for Syria. Syria also had five steals and three block shots. Syria leads the State in defensive rebounds with 9.1 per game.

The Lady Sun Chiefs will play host to the Lady Boil Weevils of Enterprise-Ozark on January 8 at 5 p.m.
