DAPHNE, Ala.—The Lady Tigers of Baldwin County High survived a fourth-quarter challenge at Daphne’s Jubilee Gym Tuesday to remain undefeated in 6A Area 3 (5-0) with a 48-42 road win.
BCHS pulled away from a 25-25 halftime score to lead the Lady Trojans midway into the third quarter. But DHS battled back to within a point 37-36 to start the final eight minutes. The score was tied 39-39 with six minutes to go before the Tigers pulled away again to lead for good.
Latia Pullum scored 18 points and CoCo Knight added 13 for BCHS while Daphne’s Brinesha Mason led all scorers with a game-high 20 points while teammate Akajah Edwards supplied 10 points.
The Lady Tigers improved to 13-4 overall while Trojans fell to 2-2 in area play and 7-14 overall. BCHS dominated the first meeting in Bay Minette to win by double digits, but the Lady Trojans have improved significantly since.
“They (Daphne) pushed us and that was good. But we hung in there, stayed in the game and played our game.” said BCHS head coach Robert Wills. “It’s always good after a long layoff like the holidays to get right back in it with good game. They have improved since the first time we played (Dec. 10). But I was happy with how we recovered and bounced back each time.”
Daphne coach Tereance Pinkney said his team got out of their game plan after their last run.
“After we tied the score up that last time, we kind ran out of gas,” he said. “The plan was to play more of a stall and wait to get a good shot. But instead, we started to take it inside to many times and turned it over. Then we just couldn’t catch up again. But we’re still playing better than before. Made a lot of progress since the start of the season. We just need to keep working.”
