SPANISH FORT, Alabama—The Lady Toros refused to lose a third-straight contest to Robertsdale’s Lady Golden Bears Monday night and finished with a 31-26 Home-on-the-Hill win at Spanish Fort High.

Elaine Wood scored 14 points and Shannon Paaymans finished with a career high 11 for the Lady Toros who were 3-for-9 at the line.

Maddie Petite led the Bears with 14 points and Austin Richardson added nine. RHS made 8-of-18 free throws, mostly down the stretch.

The teams had faced off earlier at RHS and in the Bayside Academy Thanksgiving tourney with the Bears winning each game decisively. The Toros used a more balanced attack with aggressive rebounding inside by seniors Paaymans and Madison Robson with inside support from younger post players Zoe McVay and Anna Claire Whaley who together limited Petite’s typically dominating presence under the boards.

SF built a 14-9 lead by the end of the second quarter and continued to lead RHS 22-19 after three periods. The Bears made it a one-point game off a Petite put-back to start the final period. But the Toros answered with a 9-4 run to close.

The Lady Bears (4-3) begin league play as they host Baldwin County High Saturday, at 6 p.m., in a 6A Area 2 contest. The Lady Toros (3-4) will host Daphne’s Lady Trojans (3-3) Thursday at 6 p.m. The varsity boys will follow at 7:30 p.m.
