MOBILE, Ala. – The third week of the high school cross-country season got under way at the Azalea City Cross Country Classic at USA's Brookley golf course last week with Baldwin teams in the running and several local individuals finishing well.
Spanish Fort's girls team took third in the varsity invitational behind winner McGill-Toolen and St. Paul's. The Lady Toros were paced by Peyton Walker's 19th, Elissa Vandewaa's 15th and Ayne Delgado's eighth-place finish. Foley's Lady Lions were seventh. Sage Blackwell of Fairhope, who runs for the yellow Jackets was third overall behind Margaret Harkness of St. Paul's second and Carmen Carlos of McGill-Toolen's winning time of 18:42.82 .
Spanish Fort's boys had the best Baldwin team finish at sixth, followed by Daphne, Foley and Robertsdale. McGill-Toolen, St. Paul's and Cottage Hill took the top-three spots.
Individually, Alex Guillory of Daphne was 14th, Trevor Stevens of SFHS was 15th, Taylor Elmore of DHS 17th and Tyler Phelps of Robertsdale 20th to lead the Baldwin boys to the finish. Stuart Graham of St Paul's won in 16:15.39. Philip Dempsey of McGill Toolen was second and Dan Drew St. Paul's third.
