DAPHNE — The Lady Trojans emerged 2-1 in section play and 11-1 overall with the 9-0 shutout over Foley Friday. Daphne had another section win over Baldwin County last week as well as a 2-1 loss at McGill-Toolen Catholic after capturing the Big East tournament championship at Oxford Feb. 20.
“We had some nice goals tonight," Daphne head coach Rick Andrew said. "I told them we had to come out tonight and play and be aggressive. Our defense settled down, especially in the second half and we controlled the ball better up front. "
Senior forward tandem Chanel Elgin and Maria Peters scored four each and junior forward Kate Brown struck for one to lead the offense. Daphne goal minder Sylvia Skultety presided over most of the shutout.
At Oxford, DHS went 4-0 with prelim wins over the host team and Donoho before topping 5A powerhouse Briarwood Christian 2-1 in the semi-finals with Elgin scoring twice.
In the finals DHS faced the Auburn Tigers in a nail-biter, coming down to the wire, with the Lady Trojans winning 2-1 on goals by Elgin and Peters.
