DAPHNE, Ala. – Deanna Vogler had 16 kills, three aces and a block to lead Daphne to a big 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 sweep over 4A powerhouse UMS-Wright Tuesday at Trojan Gym.

It was just the fifth loss for the No. 3-ranked Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs won the first meeting earlier this year. Daphne coach Edoli Herrion credits her defense as well as her attackers at the net for the sweep.

"Our defense was really strong. We served tough. Had some aces. Deanna was really on," Herrion said. "It was her night. Krista (Owens) had 22 digs for us, she led us on defense and our whole defense played very well tonight. Gave Kayla (Owens) some nice balls to set. I'm just proud of our team for finishing the match tonight, too. We took the lead and kept the lead. Stayed focused and finished. And that's what I'm most proud to see.

“We've had a tough time all year doing that, finishing. But we did it tonight. UMS does not give you many spots, but we were just on and were able to see and put it down. We communicated better than we have. If we keep doing that we will have more strong results like this. I know it."

Cherilyn Ramsey had 11 kills, five blocks and seven digs for DHS. Kaylin Lee added six kills, Kayla Owens added 28 assists, one kill and had a pair of aces along with twin Krista. Taylor Barnette had six digs with one kill and Barkley Langan added one kill for DHS which improved to 11-12 overall.

UMS coach Libby Hoffman said Daphne played well, "It was lights out," she said. "We were really, really flat. Daphne played an outstanding defensive game, they picked up everything off the floor. Daphne played their hearts out, and that was an intensity we didn't match."

Brooke Dial led UMS-Wright (15-5) with eight kills.
