Kay Stripe Lahti, 66 of Daphne, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center.

She was born July 18, 1942 in Monmouth, Ill., the daughter of Paul H. and Clara M. Stripe. She lived in Dixon, Sycamore and DeKalb, Ill.

After working as a journalist, she married Richard E. Lahti (Colonel, USAF-Ret.) in DeKalb, Ill., in 1965.

She graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma national sorority, Alpha Phi Gamma honorary journalism fraternity, and CWENS national women’s honor society. Also, she was editor of the Northern Illinois University newspaper and May Feat Queen.

Locally, she belonged to Lake Forest Garden Club. She was past president, originator and chair of the plant sales with Daphne High School for many years, Lake Forest Community Women’s Club, City of Daphne Beautification Committee, and Friends of Daphne Public Library.

She was a sailing instructor and weaving instructor.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Lahti; son Richard M. (Rhonda) K. Lahti of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughter, Kaylee McKee Lahti; grandson, Richard Gerrard Lahti; her mother, Clara M. Stripe of Fairhope.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.

Arrangements are by Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Daphne.
