Lake Forest to offer free swimming for subdivision residents

DAPHNE, Ala. — Lake Forest has made a few changes to its amenities, including free swimming for all residents beginning this spring.

Swimming will be free for all the subdivision’s residents when the pool opens, Rob Wright, Lake Forest’s general manager, said. “It’s a little chilly right now,” he said; the pool usually opens around Memorial Day weekend, property owners association board member Marie Bidney said.

“The board of directors along with the management decided to do it this year,” she said, adding that residents will swipe a card for identification.

Before, residents were required to sign up for pool membership, but Wright said he didn’t know what the fee was per membership.

The subdivision is also renovating the tennis center and yacht club.

“The board has passed money to replace the two hard courts,” Wright said, noting aging and cracking as reasons for improvements. “The board has stepped up to make sure we’re providing the right amenities, so instead of patching it we’re going to resurface.”

Wright said renovations wouldn’t happen until mid-February because of temperature issues involved with re-surfacing the courts. The subdivision has taken bids and signed a contract for the job.

The subdivision is also replacing the yacht club’s kitchen floor; while the renovations are going on the menu at the club will be limited.

“We aren’t able to cook it there, so we have to bring (food) from the (clubhouse),” Wright said. “We’re bringing an entrée every time and bringing them in containers … We legally cannot cook (while renovations are going on).”

The subdivision has made other changes and additions throughout the subdivision.

“We’ve put a new 50-inch screen in the yacht club,” Wright said. “Also, we’ve changed karaoke (with a new disc jockey).”

Wright said additional upgrades are on the horizon, but he wants to consider the budget before moving forward.

“We have lots of things on the books, but nothing planned until we do this project and stay within budget and account for all of our T’s being crossed and I’s being dotted,” Wright said.

“We’re looking into upgrading a lot of our amenities, but we have a budget to work within.”
