DAPHNE, Ala. — A large portion of the general fund — $107,500 — will go to landscape, irrigate and build a well, water fountain and provide electrical service connections at City Hall, according to a resolution city council unanimously adopted Monday.
Also budgeted was $7,000 to add a turnaround in La Casa subdivision on Via del San Francesco — which the Daphne Planning Commission and the council had unknowingly approved with a temporary turnaround. When the final lot was purchased, the turnaround was negated, causing traffic problems in the subdivision.
In other business, public hearings were set for July 7 for planning commission issues. Topics for discussion are: annexation of the coming Central Park subdivision, a 50-acre, multi-use parcel on Alabama Highway 181 from Baldwin County into Daphnewith zoning requests of 28 acres as a B-1 local business district, 12 acres as R-4 multi-family residential, 9 acres as R-4 high-density single-family and 9 acres as R-3 high-density single-family; rezoning a 10-acre portion of Madison Place subdivision, located at Parker Lane and Avery Drive from an R-3 high-density single-family to a R-4 high-density single family district; rezoning “Big Sandy”, nearly 1 acre located at U.S. Highway 98 and Johnson Road from a R-4 high-density single- and multi-family residential district to a B-2 general business district; and amendments to the land use and development ordinance and the sign ordinance.
Also, Councilman Ron Scott spoke positively of Thursday’s Coffee with the Mayor, where Mobile Mayor Sam Jones and Congressman Jo Bonner asked Baldwin and Mobile counties to unite and handle coming growth and industry influx.
“A rising tide floats all boats,” he said of the mutual benefit of the coming aerospace industries, Northrop Grumman and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, to Brookley Field on Mobile Bay.
