Dr. Robert H. Lang, USAF colonel retired, 80, a native of Kerrville, Texas and a resident of Gulf Shores, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence.

He graduated from Tivy High School, Kerrville, Texas, in 1945. He went on to Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he graduated in 1949. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1953 and then from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1956.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for over 24 years. While he was in the Air Force, he served as the Department Commander for the Special Forces with NASA in Washington. With NASA, he worked with the Environmental and Medical Systems for the original Space Lab.

After retiring from the Air Force, he was the Corporate Medical Director for Rohm & Haas Chemical Company in Philadelphia and later became the Corporate Medical Director for Atlantic Richfield in Los Angeles.

He attended Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lou W. Lang; six children, Robert H. Lang Jr. of Hawthorn Wood, Ill., Roxanne Bunting of Chincoteague, Va., Brother Steven Marie of St. Conrad’s Friary, Seattle, Lissa Lang Steinhaus of Kauai, Hawaii, Roak Lang of Magnolia, Texas, and Vincent Lang of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association for Research at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
