FAIRHOPE, Ala. - In recent years, the last City Council meeting of the year has been a perfunctory and even light-hearted one, where some council members have been known to wear stuffed animal reindeer antlers at the dais.
But Monday’s meeting could be different, as well as the 5 p.m. work session preceding it.
Three proposed ordinances are scheduled for a vote at the 6 p.m. Dec. 27 meeting, two of which have strong proponents and opponents among council members and in the community.
Months in the drafting, an amended noise ordinance is expected for a final vote Monday, which could turn out a large audience.
In addition, a major revision of the city’s “tree ordinance” that a committee has been at work on for more than a year will be a main item at the work session Monday. Whether that proposed revision of the local law will reach a vote Monday could be decided at the work session.
Finally, a proposal to provide what its sponsor says will increase public participation at council meetings is also scheduled for a vote.
