LaTrenna Montgomery is Miss AWAG

Once again, the Area Women Action Group’s Annual Miss AWAG Pageant was a huge success.

The Pageant was held Saturday night at Faulkner State College. The Performing Arts Center was packed and it most certainly was a grand affair.

This year’s winner and crowned as Miss AWAG 2007 was LaTrenna Montgomery, a senior at Daphne High School. Her talent presentation was one of Youlanda Adams’ hit songs, “This Battle is Not Yours, It’s the Lord’s.”

For her evening wear she wore a beautiful ballroom gown of hot pink. She was stunning and certainly had the audience on their feet during her talent presentation.

The first runner-up was Robyn Snider, a senior at Fairhope High School; second runner-up was Cecily Brown, a senior at Daphne High School; third runner-up was Whitney Hobbs, also a senior at Daphne High School.

The preliminary winners consisted of: Scholastic Achievement Award, Cicily Williams of Baldwin County High School; Shining Star Award, Carolyn Johnson of Baldwin County High School; the Most Spirit Award, Whitney Hobbs of Daphne High School; the Tickets and Presence Award, Cicily Williams of Baldwin County High School; the Ads and Publishing Award, Cecily Brown of Daphne High School; the Shedrick Hardy Memorial Award, Brittney Lockett of Daphne High School; The Beatrice Lyons Memorial Award, LaTrinna Montgomery of Daphne High School; the Mary Cox Memorial Award, Robyn Snider of Fairhope High School; and the Faulkner State Scholarship was awarded to Cicily Moorer of Robertsdale High School.

Serving as judges this year were: Allen Rice of Prichard; the Rev. Buford Hall of Mobile; Maxine Stallworth of Jackson; Teresa Dees and Mona Simmons, both of Atmore.

Our head and accountability judge was Lenus Perkins of Birmingham. He has been with us for 13 years.

Serving as emcee of the program was Minister Coleman Austin of WLVV Gospel Radio Station.

Oh, don’t let me forget to mention the Lil Angels and Lil Gents and their stage performance. The Lil Angels were just beautiful in their tea-length white dresses and black patent leather shoes, along with their angel wings.

The Lil Gents wore black tuxedos with red vests and black top hats. They were all right on time and as handsome as they could be.

Thanks to everyone for your love and support for AWAG and the young people. Thanks to Buddy Brock for all that you do for us. You are truly a life line.

This Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 a.m. the Missionary Department will sponsor a yard sale at Douglasville Community Center. All proceeds will go toward helping to feed the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. This is sponsored by the Missionary at Union Baptist.

Then on Saturday night at 6 p.m., the YIC of Union Baptist will kick off their Youth Rally. The Rally will climax on Sunday afternoon at the church. The entire Rally will be held at the church. You will miss a treat if you do not attend.

So, we hope that you will be there for this special treat. Barbara Brown is chairman/youth director and the Rev. D.L. Boykin is pastor.

Until next week, let’s remember that God is everywhere. He sees all we do and hears all we say. So, let’s not try to hide what we say or do because God sees and hears us no matter where we are — day or night.
