Laurence Theodore Deabler Sr., 85, died quietly surrounded by family Jan. 27, 2012. He was born in Westfield, Ma., to Letha Crane Deabler and Lawrence A. Deabler. He and his wife, Virginia, retired to Lillian after a long career with IBM.
He was a WW II veteran, and graduate of Cornell University with bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Letha and Lawrence; sister, Gwendolyn Deabler-Loomis and her husband Milford Loomis; niece, Robin Gay Loomis; brother in-law, Dunlop Hayward Slater; and sister in-law, Barbara Slater-Wall and her husband Otto Wall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia; daughter, Susan Deabler of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Laurie York and husband William of Grimsley, Tenn.; son, Laurence T. Deabler Jr. and wife Karen of Atlanta, Ga.; nephew, Milford H. Loomis and wife Patricia of West Hartford, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Jennifer, Brian, Kylene, Heather, Scott, and Brandon; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to all their friends, family, and neighbors who have been so loving and caring during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 31, at Lillian United Methodist Church, 12770 S Perdido St, Lillian.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the building fund at the Lillian United Methodist Church.
