Lavonne Irene Smith Mottern, 71 of Newberry, Ind., died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham.
Born Jan. 1, 1940 in Independence, Mo., she was the daughter of Dora Marquardt Smith and Carl Smith. She was the widow of Donald Leroy Mottern with whom she had a life long love affair.
She grew up in Baldwin County and raised her own family here. She lived in many places, but Baldwin County was her home.
Survivors include a brother, Manuel “Mark” Marquardt of Denver; sister, Rosemary Zumbrunnen of Foley; six children, Pamela Sylvester of Silverhill, Kelly Ilsley of Summerdale, Allyson Parden of Loveland, Colo., Donald Mottern of Alabaster, Eva McDuffie of Orange Beach, and Larry Workman of Foley;17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerious nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
