BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Bay Minette Public Library patrons now have a high-tech option for reserving books.
The location, as well as its counterparts throughout Baldwin County, now offers a catalog app for Android and iPhone devices.
According to a news release from Baldwin County Library Director Liz Reed, the app enables library patrons to “search the county libraries’ cataglogs, request books, audiobooks, DVDs and CD’s, renew items and check their patron account through their mobile device.”
“If you know what you want, it makes it quicker,” Bay Minette Public Library Director Jana M. Bailey said during an interview.
To access the app, visit
www.baldwincat.org or on your mobile-app store, search for LS2 Mobile.
But that’s not that only high-tech tweak the library system is offering. Reed also said text messaging is also available.
“With this feature, patrons can receive notice on their smart phone that a requested item is ready to be picked up or that an item is overdue,” Reed said in the release.
She added that while standard text-messaging rates apply, patrons can sign up for the service at the library circulation desk.
According to Bailey, these two new services are evidence of the library’s evolution in the community.
“It just shows people that libraries are up to date on technology,” she said.
In addition to Bay Minette Public Library, additional locations offering the new services include Daphne, Fairhope, Foley, Loxley, Magnolia Springs, Orange Beach, Oscar Johnson Memorial, Robertsdale, Thomas B. Norton public libraries and the Baldwin County Library Cooperative.
