DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Public Library is now offering two new online services to its patrons, including HeritageQuest and Rosetta Stone. Patrons with Daphne library cards can access these programs from any computer with Internet access.

HeritageQuest, a Salt Lake City-based genealogical information company, with holdings of more than 250,000 publications and titles, includes military records, ship passenger lists, county records, selected state records, Native American records, marriage records, local and family histories, African-American family records, city directories and more. The complete historical U.S. census records dating from 1790 to 1920 are handwritten and fully indexed so users can view them in their original format. Patrons can also search PERSI, an index of over 1.9 million genealogy and local history articles, as well as books covering over 22,000 family and local histories.

Data from the Freedman’s Bank, founded to serve African Americans from 1865–1874, can be accessed, as well as Revolutionary War era pension and bounty-land warrant application files. Memorials, petitions and private relief actions of the U.S. Congress in the LexiNexis U.S. Serial Set will also be available for research.

The Daphne Public library is also offering the Online Library Edition of Rosetta Stone, designed to give beginners a taste of how easy it is to learn a language online.

Patrons can access approximately 90 hours of instruction in each of nine languages including English (US), English (UK), Spanish (LA), Spanish (Spain), French, German, Greek, Russian and Italian.

Each program leads users through a sequence of 33 lessons covering topics such as times, dates, currency, shopping, food, hotels and modes of transportation.

Use either online program by visiting the Web site www.daphneal.com/library and clicking on HeritageQuest or Rosetta Stone.

Log on to HeritageQuest by entering your library card number.
