Library board established in Magnolia Springs

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. - The Magnolia Springs Town Council unanimously approved the establishment of a library board and the appointment of members to the board Tuesday.

The board is in association to the planned Magnolia Springs Public Library, which is set to open in October. Alida Given, library director, spoke to the council at the July 12 work session about the reason the board is needed. The council questioned about whether the board is the town's responsibility, and it was confirmed the town was liable for the board. The most expensive payment the board will make is the lease on the building, one councilman said Tuesday.

"I'm going to support it, but I'm not thrilled about it," Councilman Rick Odess said.

Mayor Charles Houser commented that the library was in good shape financially with the receiving of grants.

"We could dissolve it at any time we want to," Councilman Kenny Laurendine said.
