DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Public Library will celebrate the 56th inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama with two events during the week of Jan. 19.
On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the library will have television coverage of the inaugural ceremonies taking place on the west front of the U.S. capitol in Washington, D.C. The public is invited to view this historic event in the library’s Community Room, which will be open from 9 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. All are welcome to “drop by” during this television coverage, or to come for the entire broadcast.
The president must take the Oath of Office prior to noon on Jan. 20, which is the time his term of office begins according to the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
On Thursday, Jan. 22, Anne Morris, reference librarian, will present a “Resolve to Read!” talk: “The President and Presidential Politics.” She will give a brief review of the library’s recent titles on Obama, the presidential election, and current issues such as the economy.
The public is invited to attend from 6 to 7 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. Coffee and soft drinks will be served.
The library is located at the corner of U.S. Highway 98 and Whispering Pines Road, in the Daphne Civic Center Complex.
