FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Friends of the Fairhope Library are busy finalizing details for the 2nd annual Chocolate & Champagne Fantasy, to be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 7-9 p.m. at the Fairhope Public Library.
Last year’s event drew several hundred library lovers who sipped champagne and wine, enjoyed a wide selection of chocolate desserts, and helped support the library by purchasing items at the live and silent auctions. This year’s event will feature some “sweet repeats” from last year’s event, including fun door prizes and a fabulous silent and live auction, said Mary Gregg, Friends vice president.
“The community is so generous with donations as always, and we have some fun and unusual items to auction off this year. One of my favorites is a special hands-on cooking class and dinner for up to six in your home with Fairhope’s Panini Pete, who was featured on Food Network.”
Gregg listed a wide array of auction items, including tickets to a New Orleans’ Saints game, art from numerous, respected local artists, horseback, birding and golf outings, dinners, unique gift baskets, an antique curio cabinet and more. “Another fun item we have is lunch for four with author Fannie Flagg, which will be a very special treat for someone.”
Music at this year’s event is from violinist Tom Morley and harpist Andra Bohnet. The two are part of the eclectic chamber group Silverwood, and they have donated a set of Silverwood CDs to the silent auction. A complete list of auction items is posted at the library and on the Friends’ Web site.
Another new addition this year is a raffle for a cruise onboard the Carnival Fantasy. Raffle tickets ($5 each or 5 for $20) are for sale through the event and the drawing will take place that night. The winner does not have to be present to win the cruise.
With total proceeds from last year’s event, the Friends of the Library donated $15,000 to the Fairhope Public Library to be used for unbudgeted book and technology purchases. “It’s a wonderfully fun and delicious night that raises a lot of money for a very worthwhile cause,” said Gregg.
Tickets, available at the library or from Friends’ board members, are $25 per person in advance or $30 at the door. Visit www.FriendsofFairhopeLibrary.org for more information.
