Library now offering amnesty

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Public Library encourages you to “Be Thankful for Your Library” by returning long overdue and lost items to the library during a two-week amnesty period that will run through Sunday, Nov. 25. All items may be returned at no cost during this time period.

The library currently has over 15,000 items valued at over $52,000 that have not been returned as scheduled.  This means that it has over 15,000 fewer items to share with the citizens of Daphne and may possibly have to spend funds intended for new 2008 materials to replace these lost items.

By returning your overdue and lost items, you can help your neighbor by allowing that person access to the items and by allowing the library to spend funds on new items.

In order to increase the safety of the library staff and the security of returned items, the Daphne Public Library has installed an indoor book drop located just to the right of the entrance. This book drop allows patrons to return items at any time with the knowledge that their items are safe and secure within the library walls. The new book drop will also protect materials from humidity, heat, cold and other factors that shorten the life of the items or make the items less attractive to use.

The library staff asks that you return all items to the new book drop or bring the items to the front desk.

The old outdoor book drops will be removed.
