DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Public Library’s 11th Annual “Library Safari” Spring into Reading Poetry Contest was a roaring success, according to staffers.

Winners are as follows.

DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Public Library’s 11th Annual “Library Safari” Spring into Reading Poetry Contest was a roaring success, according to staffers.

Winners are as follows.

—Kindergarten division: first place, “Untitled” by Anna Claire Odom, Daphne East Elementary; second place, “Untitled” by Mary Helen Weatherby, Daphne East Elementary; third place, “Untitled” by Bethany Allen, Daphne East Elementary; Honorable Mention, “Untitled” by Kamiya Watson, Daphne East Elementary. 

—First- and second-grade division: first place, “Curly Shirley” by Jasmine White, Daphne Elementary; second place, “My Mom” by Makenie Shahid, Daphne Elementary; third place, “Curly Murly” by Sara Santa Cruz, Daphne Elementary; Honorable Mention, “Dress Mess” by Madison Bias, Daphne Elementary. 

—Third- and fourth-grade division: first place, “Jungle Noise” by Sarah Meehan, Bayshore Christian; second place, “Wow” by Jensen Graddick, Christ the King; third place, “Safari” by Anna Mariacher, Bayshore Christian; Honorable Mention, “A Wild Safari” by Molly Tate, Bayshore Christian. 

—Fifth-grade division: first place, “ The Wacky Zoo” by Nathan Cordell, Daphne East Elementary; second place, “Silent Safari” by Abby Schultz, Daphne East Elementary; third place, “Untitled” by Harper Weed, Daphne East Elementary; Honorable Mention, “My Jungle Adventure” by Aaron Taylor, Daphne East Elementary. 

—Overall lower division winners: first place, “Red, Blue, Exciting and True” by Connor Fulton, fifth grade Daphne East Elementary; second place, “Safari” by Avery Jensen, fifth grade, Daphne East Elementary; third place, “Untitled” by Peeper Walker, third grade Bayshore Christian.

 —Sixth-grade Division: first place, “Reading Adventure” by Miriam Sanders, Daphne Middle School; second place, “Go to the Jungle” by Jonathan Barnes, Bayshore Christian School; third place, “Friends” by Dawayne Washington, Daphne Middle School; Honorable Mention, “Friends” by Sibley Barnetter, Bayshore Christian School. 

—Seventh-grade division: first place, “My Window Tree” by Hope Fulton, Daphne Middle School; second place, “A Safari Across the World” by Kristen Rhodes, Daphne Middle School; third place, “Africa” by Kayla Warner, Daphne Middle School; Honorable Mention, “Ripples” by Will Sullivan, Daphne Middle School. 

—Eighth-grade division: first place, “Missing What You Never Knew” by Nicole Aglietti, Daphne Middle School; second place, “Take Care” by Taylor Barnette Daphne Middle School; third place, “April Showers Bring May Flowers” by Madison Brown, Daphne Middle School; Honorable Mention, “Seems To Be Like Me” by Serenity Lamprakes, Daphne Middle School. 

—Ninth- through 12th-grade division: first place, “Journey Through the Mind” by Lauren McKenzie, Daphne High School; second place, “Untitled” by John  Clark, Daphne High School; third place, “ Pitch Black” by Paige Lathem, Daphne High School; Honorable Mention, “Untitled” by Alecia Brown, Daphne High School. 

—Overall upper division winners: first place, “My Window Tree” by Hope Fulton, Daphne Middle School; second place, “Journey Through the Mind” by Lauren McKenzie, Daphne High School; third place, “Reading Adventure” by Miriam Sanders, Daphne Middle School. 

The poetry contest was organized by library staffer Louise Youngblood and volunteer Page Sute.

Poems were related to a “Library Safari” theme or a general library theme. Ribbons or gift cards were awarded on March 28.

Judges for the upper division were Andre’ and Amy LaPalme and Pamela Sanders; lower division judges were Dick Sute, Ann Hopf and Joanne Keller.
