Library thankful for its Friends

Oct. 19-25 is National Friends of the Library Week and thus a good time to thank publicly the Friends of the Fairhope Public Library, who contribute so much of their time and expertise to significantly enhance our library’s services.

Volunteers from the Friends assist library staff with shelving, clerical work and repairing books and equipment. The group also sponsors or supports The Written Word Book Group, the Tuesday Morning Book Review/Lecture Series, the summer movie series, the Raise A Reader project, and the Children’s Summer Reading Program. In addition, this year the Friends have donated over $40,000 from fundraising events and book sales to provide unbudgeted items for the book collection and technology.

If you are interested in joining and supporting this outstanding organization, I invite you to attend the Friends’ Annual Meeting on Sunday, Nov. 2, at the library, or ask for information about the group at the library circulation desk.
