BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Commission approved minor changes Tuesday for a boat launch in Lillian which will feature a 280-foot fishing pier, boat pier, a beach and picnic areas funded by a $700,000 BP grant.

Construction began in late May and should be completed in November.

Baldwin County engineer Cal Markert told commissioners Tuesday that the facility will include a 30-car parking lot, 60 boat parking spaces, loading and unloading zones, and landscaping with trees and erosion control. County officials said the community has asked for a launch for several years, and the site will prevent search and rescue teams from going to Florida to launch.

Construction plans for a Wolf Creek/Wolf Bay boat launch is also in the works funded by a $300,000 BP grant.
