“Build it and they will come,” was what the developers of the Lillian Recreational Park thought when they began the project many years ago. But although there are three ball fields, a college-level basketball court, and football and soccer fields, most any time of the day you won’t find many children at the park. And that’s a concern of members of the park board.
Churches are also wrestling with the fact that young families are not taking part in their services or programs. No solutions were found at the initial meeting, but all who attended indicated they would be interested in helping the park and perhaps find answers to their own problems with attendance.
The next meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Sept. 29 at the Lillian Recreational Park, Perdido and Widell Streets, one block south of the Lillian Post Office. Those who are interested in encouraging use of the park by area boys and girls should call Ken Sanders, 961-1530.
