Ernest Alfred Link, 86, born June 25, 1921 in Missouri, a resident of Fairhope, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.

After graduating from college he moved north and became a chemical engineer for GE Carboloy of Michigan, and raised six children.

He was a loving father and husband and he lived by the ideals that he tried to install in his children. He lived his life to its fullest and always made time for his loving and numerous grandchildren. His hugs were as big as Oak trees and he leaves behind a legacy that will last for generations. The world is a better place for having known him.

He began his life with modest surroundings and he achieved much success, both personally and professionally, over his lifetime. His parents that proceeded in death would have been very proud of their youngest child's life and his impact on those that new him. He will be missed.

Survivors include his wife Virginia Shields-Link; two daughters, Pamela Lemay, of Clinton Twp, Mich., and Nancy (John) Zurawski of New Baltimore, Mich.; four sons, John (Karen) Link of Troy, Mich., James (Judy) Link of New Port Beach, Calif., Ronald (Jessica) Link of Kansas City , Mo., and Richard (Kelly) Link of Hadley, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four step-children, Elizabeth (Donald) Bauman of Ann Arbor, Mich., Matthew (Cindy) Shields of New Haven, Mich., Martin (Kristen Mahrt) Shields of Fort Collins, Colo., and Douglas (Laura) Shields of Hazel Park, Mich.; and 11 step-grandchildren.
