FOLEY — In anticipation of the day that places the spotlight on promoting adult involvement in children’s literacy, Foley Mayor John Koniar read a proclamation endorsing the day during last week’s Foley City Council meeting. That proclamation explained that the catalyst of the special day was the March 2 birthday of Theodore Seuss Geisel, who wrote numerous beloved Dr. Suess children’s books.
“Therefore, let it be resolved that I, John E. Koniar, mayor of the city of Foley, call on the citizens of Foley, Ala., to assure that every child is in a safe place reading together with a caring adult on March 1, 2013,” Koniar read at the meeting.
To answer that call, Foley Elementary special guests, including this editor, will descend upon Foley Elementary School Friday morning to read selected books to designated classrooms.
