Philip L. Levin, MD will discuss his life as an E. R. doctor, published author, African missionary and social activist at the Daphne Library on April 10^th at 3:45 in the library community room.  Dr. Levin is the author of seven published books and serves as president of the 160 member Gulf Coast Writers Association.  He works full time as an Emergency Room physician at the Memorial Hospital of Gulfport, MS.

Dr. Levin has traveled extensively on medical mission trips and will discuss his recent travels to Kenya where he has adopted an orphanage and a hospital.  Providing electricity and water to third world areas has been a main objective for Dr. Levin. As a social activist, he is passionate in understanding the unique lifestyles of rural Kenya and the inhabitants of the mountains of Honduras, where he has labored to set up health clinics and a rural hospital.

As Dr. Levin's medical mission led him to remote places, he began to show the wonder of the culture and beauty of the distinctive environment through photography and the creation of children’s books.

Dr. Levin will feature his newest book, Ndovu the Elephant during his presentation.  Ndovu the Elephant is an African Tale about a baby elephant lost on the Serengeti and his journey to find his lost family.   The book includes thirty-six photos taken in Kenya of animals in their natural habitat.
